Dental Management of Sleep Apnea
Course Description:
This Webinar will conclude the series of seminars in Airway Dentistry. The seminar is on Sleep Apnea and prosthetic dental appliances used to manage this medical condition. It will cover the basics of diagnosis and the dental treatment of sleep apnea for a general practitioner. The presentation starts by defining common terminology often used in Obstructive Sleep Apnea disorder (OSA) and continues with a review of the epidemiology of sleep disorders. We will then discuss complications, symptomology, and prevalence of OSA as well as treatment options.
Dr. Valentina Lyssova is the course director for this session, and Drs. Cohen and Grossman contributed to the seminar. The Webinar will be moderated by Dr. Nima Dayani.

Course Objectives:
In this 2 CE AGD-accredited course, you will learn about:
1. Overview of diagnostic terminology
2. Overview of sleep examination and records: How to read a sleep study and what sleep studies are available.
3. Overview of dental signs and symptoms
4. How sleep apnea and nighttime bruxism are connected
5. Promoting and maintaining health with the proper dental appliance: types of appliances, indications and contraindications.
6. Titration of the appliances.
About Dr. Valentina Lyssova:
Dr. Valentina Lyssova is a maxillofacial prosthodontics dental specialist. She received her doctorate degree from New York University. She then completed her post-doctoral residency program in Prosthodontics at New York University. Dr. Lyssova continued her advanced post-doctorate fellowship training in Maxillofacial prosthodontics at Memorial Sloane-Kettering Cancer Center. Subsequently, she completed a two-year post-doctorate fellowship training at Columbia University’s Implantology program. Dr. Lyssova currently practices at EOI-NYC and her practice is limited to surgical phase of prosthodontics.
About Dr. Ilana Grossman:
Dr. Ilana Grossman graduated from Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine and did a General Practice Residency at North Shore University hospital in Manhasset. Originally from Plainview, Long Island (New York), she works in private practice in Midtown Manhattan and resides on the Upper East Side. Dr. Grossman is an avid snowboarder, cyclist, rock climber, and a 2x ironman finisher.
About Dr. Katarina Cohen:
Dr. Katarina Cohen earned her doctorate degree from Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, She then completed her General Practice Residency at Maimonides Medical Center. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and on staff at Sleep Dynamics – an accredited American Academy of Sleep Medicine facility in New Jersey.
